Reese Edward Carroll, Jr. was born on November 9, in Buckingham, Virginia and was educated in the public schools of Buckingham County. After graduation from Buckingham County High School, he joined the United States Air Force, where he was a teletype and crypto technician serving in Viet Nam. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was discharged in 1969. He retired from Xerox Corporation after thirty-four years of service. He held several technical and management positions during his tenure with Xerox. He was responsible for Xerox service in the Charlottesville, Roanoke, and Western Virginia areas.
Brother Carroll was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on May 12, 1992, in Buckingham Lodge No. 242. He is a Life Member in Perpetuity and served as its Worshipful Master in 1996, 1997, and 1998. He is also a member of George Lodge No. 32. He was District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District No. 17 in 2005. He was appointed as Grand Marshal in 2009. He is the Grand Representative to the Grand Lodge of Nevada, near Virginia. He served as Grand Master for the year 2015 and was elected Grand Treasurer in November 2018.
He is a member of the Valleys of Lynchburg and Richmond, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and was invested Knight Commander Court of Honour in 2011 and coroneted a 33° Inspector General Honorary in 2015. He is a member of Arvonia Royal Arch Chapter No. 64, Acca Shrine Center and a member of the Acca Mini Patrol, where he served as Director in 2002 and 2006 and Commander in 2005. Also, he is a member of the Shriners Hospital Transportation Team. He is a member of Richmond Court No. 16, Royal Order of Jesters, and Fork Union Chapter No. 111, Order of the Eastern Star. He holds life membership in the Royal Order of Scotland, James Monroe Chapter No. 549, National Sojourners, and Post 8446, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Brother Carroll is a recipient of the Honorary Legion of Honor, DeMolay International and holds honorary membership in Kazim Shrine Center, Kena Shrine Center, and the Grand Lodges of Kentucky, South Dakota and Tennessee.
Brother Carroll is married to the former Mary Inez Ashley. They have two sons, Michael Edward Carroll and Mark Daniel Carroll, both of whom are Life Members in Perpetuity in Buckingham Lodge No. 242 and both reside in Charlottesville. Brother Carroll and his wife are active members of Mulberry Grove Baptist Church in Buckingham, Virginia.
