Grand Senior Deacon

Roy Michael McKenney was born September 9, 1958 in Lottsburg, Virginia. He has spent his entire life in Northumberland County in Virginia's historic Northern Neck. Brother Mike graduated from Northumberland High School in 1976. He received an associate degree from Rappahannock Community College and a Bachelor's Degree from Mary Washington College (now University). He received his Juris Doctor Degree from T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. After graduation, he joined the law firm of Smith, Murphy and Taliaferro. In 1995, Brother Mike was elected Commonwealth's Attorney. While Commonwealth s Attorney, he started the Multi-Jurisdictional Grand Jury for the Northern Neck where he served as special prosecutor for drug investigations in the region.

In 2009, Brother Mike was elected Judge of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court for the 15th Judicial District of Virginia. He served in that capacity until the Virginia General Assembly elected him to Judge of the Circuit Court in 2016. Since his elevation to the Circuit Court, Brother Mike presides over a Drug Court specialty docket which he was instrumental in beginning in 2018. While in college and Law School, Brother Mike served as Legislative Aide to Delegate W. Tayloe Murphy, Jr. from 1983 through 1990. While working with Delegate Murphy, some of the most significant environmental legislation in Virginia history was adopted, including the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act.

Brother Mike was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on August 6, 1991, in Heathsville Lodge No. 109, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1998, 2017, 2019, and 2020. He is affi liated with Westmoreland Lodge No. 212, where he is also a Life Member in Perpetuity and served as Worshipful Master in 2007. Brother Mike was appointed District Deputy Grand Master for the 9th Masonic District in 2011. He served as Grand Senior Steward in 2020-2021. He also serves on the Grand Lodge Committee on Jurisprudence. Brother Mike is a member of the Valley of Richmond, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and was invested Knights Commander of the Court of Honor in 2014. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Richmond Valley's Childhood Language Center. He also holds membership in the Westmoreland Royal Arch Chapter No. 41.

In the community, Brother Mike is a life member of the Callao Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Charter Board Member of the Northumberland County Little League serving as President for 3 years. He previously served as a Board member of Church Resource Services, Inc., a multi-church organization created by the DuPont Fund to help rural churches in Northumberland and Lancaster Counties. He also served as Treasurer of the Northumberland County Red Cross. Brother Mike was appointed by Governor Mark Warner to serve on the State Water Control Board from 2008 to 2011. During his service, the Board adopted stringent water quality standards.

Brother Mike is married to the former Almeda Hundley. Almeda is the daughter of the late Ralph W. and Vernette V. Hundley. Brother Ralph was a past-Worshipful Master of Heathsville Lodge No. 109 and Past District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District No. 9. Mike and Almeda have a daughter, Caroline, and a son, Patrick. He attends St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Brother Mike is an avid runner who enjoys reading and time with his family.
